While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV
The best way to keep ourselves anchored in truth and God’s love is to consistently ask ourselves…”Will this matter in eternity?”
We live in a world focused on temporal things but the scriptures say that God has placed eternity in our hearts.
He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMPC
That’s why we’re all looking for someone or something to worship as well as a source of love, validation and acceptance. When we find Jesus, our priorities change and our source of confidence changes…that is, if we really enter into a relationship with him.
If you think about it…the car you drove, the house you owned, how you looked in that outfit, the small mistakes that people made fun of you for, the times you couldn’t find the right words to say, the debate you “won” about politics or in an argument with your spouse just because you could yell louder…really, NONE of this matters.
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Colossians 3:2 NLT
In fact, some things that we THINK are important, will hinder us from living the abundant life that Jesus paid for.
What we make matter here on earth, determines how we end up spending our eternity…and it can even mean the difference between making or missing Heaven.
One day, we will all stand before God and give an account. How did we live? How did we love? Did we humble ourselves to accept Jesus as our Savior and repent of our sins? Did we submit to his Lordship and seek his Kingdom first along with his righteousness (his right way of doing things?) Did we worship him with a pure heart in spirit and in truth? Did we forgive and give allowance for the faults of others in hopes of restoration? Did we stand for what was right and abhor what was evil?
Or did we worship ourselves, our opinions, our talents, our achievements…? Did we make it about us and make up our own definition of love and truth and what’s “right”…? Did we fear men more than God? Did we let insecurity hold us back from stepping out into our purpose?
Does it matter in eternity…and how would you like to spend your eternity?
We’re on one side of eternity now but how you live the rest of it all comes down to a choice. Choose life, love, truth. Choose righteousness, mercy, forgiveness. Choose today and forever, JESUS.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 NKJV
Pray the prayer of salvation to secure your eternity in heaven: Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sins. Wash me, cleanse me, and set me free. I believe you died for me and that you're coming back again for me. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and give me a passion for the lost. I receive your love today and ask that you place eternity in my heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
